The Blue Circle reading game
Last year, as 14 November approached, I was wondering how can we mark the World Diabetes Day and spread some information about diabetes at it.
Mr T complains from time to time that it annoys him when other kids ask: does your pump have games on it? That gave me an idea.
I typed up 25 simple facts about diabetes, including the one saying: no the pum does not have games on it. I cut up the page into one sentence strips and rolled them up into empty boxes of testing strips.
I added a blue circle on the tops as a symbol for World Diabetes Day.
Mr T was happy to take the lot to the class and the teacher was more then happy to "play the game" with the kids. Every child got a box and took turn to read aloud their sentence. The teacher decided to "test" the class and asked them to write down three facts they remembered about diabetes. She rewarded them all afterwards.
The best was when one of the girls from the class saw me the next day and said: Thank you for organizing such an interesting game for us yesterday!
If you like the idea, feel free to download the list of facts I used, or make your own up
