I know, I know – it is only a number. I, my self have said that to other worried mothers many a time. Well, I am a bit of a worried mother at the moment.
We have been traveling continually for 5 months, staying in places for few weeks at a time. It is very hard to keep to a routine when one is on the go like that. The food varies from place to place, different countries have different product labeling laws (very loose in most places).
My carbs guessing abilities have been pushed to the limits.
As if these hormones are not enough, the doctor pointed out the work of growth hormones over the period – Mr T has added 5 cm to his height since the last check up!
Certainly there is now MORE of Mr T and therefore the need for insulin is greater.
Since then we have had to reduce the insulin doses a bit and change back some of the settings to those prior to the “growth spurt” . For nearly two weeks now we are seeing much more stable and predictable BG numbers. It seems we are out of the hormone storm – for now, but that sure was a sign of the things to come.
We better prepare ourselves for the fun time ahead.

Two weeks later: We did the HbA1c - and it is was a total surprise, a LOVELY SURPRISE! 6.6! I was NOT expecting such a great number considering the highs and only a few under 4's. Nevertheless, we celebrated, twice as hard then usual. It just goes to show that by keeping "on it" all the time, even when feeling discouraged by persistent high BG's (believe me, we felt discouraged many a day), it paid off. :)
