It is not a day we celebrate, but a day we use to reflect.
This is what the past 6 years looked like through the story of numbers.
For Mr T it was 3 years and a few days on pens and just a few days short of 3 years on the pump. Let's say 1096 days on each.
With at least 4 pen pricks a day that was 4384 total pen pricks (add a few).
On the pump, the infusion set gets changed every third day so it was 365 set changes (which is a prick too), so far.
Let's see now for the biggest hole maker of them all - the number checking ! If I count (very conservatively) 7 BG checks a day that makes a total of 15344 finger pricks in past 6 years.
So with all the pen pricks, pricks for infusion set changes and the finger pricks, we are talking over 20000 tiny holes !
on his body
Mr T
should not be floating,
yet he still is !
Not only floating - swimming !
6 years
3 different types of insulin
2 pumps
8 blood glucose meters
300 boxes of testing strips
40000 units of insulin
3 trips to hospital
24 HbA1c tests
Number of times we had to use GlucaGen..........none
Number of carbs counted...............................countless
Number of nights I slept through...................... a few
But the sleepy face and a smile I see in the morning, every morning is worth far more than all those mentioned above and future numbers put together. Actually, it is ..........priceless.
