Now, how is that possible for the self confessed helicopter parent,
D mom like me?
Well I do want my boy to grow into an independent, responsible, yet happy and not so much different to others, young man. So I try to look out for opportunities for his independence to shine through, within a safe environment.
I had a special meeting with the teacher the other day just to go over the possible scenarios with her as well as to ask her kindly to remind Mr T to check his BG and bolus before each meal. I know for sure that with all the excitement of such a special day he will forget that he has diabetes (which is a good thing), but he will also forget to test and bolus (not so good).
That is of course in addition to the sweets + BG meter + crackers + lunch box, all in MrT's rucksack. PLUS some sweets in his pocket. just in case he gets separated from his rucksack.
Did I over do it? Yes, I think so, but better safe then sorry -
that is why I can relax now. Theoretically.
Waiting.........
Yours Truly
The Chilling D mom
P.S. You will probably laugh, and you should: he has only gone on a day excursion, all the way to Currumbin which is a WHOLE 45km away from our home. They'll be back at school at 3pm, like any other school day.
4 more hours, now....not that I am counting.... :)

The Update:
It was a FABULOUS day! Mr T is no longer going to be a blacksmith (so last week) but he is going to work in Currumbin Wild Life Sanctuary with endangered animals! And that is FINAL!
He did GREAT! Bolused for ALL the food, even that ice cream at the end....did not really bothered with testing BG, not until he was back at school. All good though, 3.8 on the pick up.....
At least he DID 50% of things he supposed to do ! Ahhhhhhh......
