Her words will tell it all.... THANK YOU MY FRIEND !
I have recently re-connected with a friend after many, many years. She did not know Mr T had Diabetes. She has not been personally touched by diabetes. She read the blog and was inspired, so much that she wrote a poem.....

On a regular day everything goes as usual: tests, numbers, food, more numbers, insulin, more numbers…. and the numbers vary, as they do, when you have diabetes, but that is OK. No major drama. Then you forget to re-connect the pump when you get into your pajamas…. A few hours later – the NUMBERS HAVE GONE MAD ! You too….. And that is what happened the other night.
courtesy of Accu- Check A few months ago, Mr T got this fancy “number checker” (our code name for blood glucose meter). It is called Accu-Check Mobile and does not have the standard type testing strips, but a hidden continuous tape for 50 tests (for more info, please click on the photo or the name of the meter above). My husband and I still prefer the good old Accu-Check Performa, while Mr T LOVES this one for following reasons :
[on 14/08/2012 - by clicking on the photo, you will be able to see How To Use It video by Accu Check] Some of you might be asking how could I even consider a pure sugar Fairy Floss treat for my diabetic child. Well, as I said before, we follow a child first, diabetes second - mantra, without compromising daily diabetes management. That means I always ask myself, would I give him this, or would I let him do that if he did not have diabetes ? If answer is yes, then I proceed with it and follow it with diabetes management tools to assure the best possible glucose control. That was the case with Fairy Floss too. If Mr T did not have diabetes YES I would allow him to try it at the fete. I would not make it a daily treat even if he did not have diabetes. Besides, any child who eats and enjoys broccoli like he does,
deserves a treat now and then. So I forgot to label garlic bread today.I did label all the other snacks in Mr T’s lunch box, as I do every day, including ones that do not have any carbs, but I forgot the biggest carb-loader of them all. It happens, I know, I am only human, but what now ? I just had to share this with you. Today, Mr T came home from school and said: Mom, you should hear what a great idea my friend /let say/ Mike had today. He was watching me putting the numbers into the pump and delivering insulin. He said it would be so cool if every time I needed to do this I had to play a quick game, like PacMan: You put in your number and then PacMan - insulin starts eating up the dots until it gets to the number it needs to be on. If the number is HIGH PacMan says: Overload ! Overload ! and eats up a small ghost /like in the original game/ and then the number becomes OK. |
