ABC carbs free poster
When Mr T started on the pump, we were all learning the art of carbs counting. We still do. At the time, ABC was the the focus at Mr T's school, so we decided to combine the two.
The aim was to make Mr T aware that there are some foods he can eat and not bolus for, while others, containing carbohydrates, he needs to cover with insulin.
We pinned the chart onto the dining room wall, so we can all see it while at the table. Mr T had great fun cutting colorful food photos from magazines (including supermarket advertizing leaflets) and sticking them up on the poster, matching the first letter of the food to the letter of Alphabet in that square.
Two year later it is still work in progress, but having the visual display of carbs free food right in front of our eyes, made it easy for us to plan for carbs free days but it made Mr T way too cunning. He now says: "Can I have this as a snack? It is carbs free, which is perfect, since I do now feel like bolusing again." Lazy boy!
