I'll explain.
Bad habits that your child has acquired can drive you NUTS. And it can take AGES to change them, or worse, they can stick forever. That is why GOOD habits are pure gold, but they can also occasionally turn into a problem, like the other day.
I'll explain.

This week is National Diabetes Week in Australia and there is a lot of information floating around about Diabetes. This is good. Anything that raises awareness about Diabetes is great. If you are somebody who is touched by Type 1 Diabetes you will know how often people who are not, ask: How come he / she has got Diabetes at such a young age? Or Will she / he always have Diabetes? Wouldn't he/ she outgrow it? Questions like that clearly show that the majority of people still do not understand the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. To be honest, I did not either, before Mr T's diagnosis. I am not talking about free needles for pens, or those once in a while free blood glucose meters you get from the suppliers who already know you are spending a fortune on testing strips.
No, I am just reflecting on the two weeks of holiday Mr T just had. We had not planned a very active holiday since I wanted to use the opportunity of having him at home to conduct a PROPER check of basal settings. I have not done the carbs free testing to see what effect the current setting has, in a while, and knew that certainly the afternoon basal rate needed an "upgrade". In spite of my carefully planned low activity holiday, the past two weeks turned out to be relatively active with lots of firsts. You will rememeber that Mr T's second TRYathlon was postponed back in April because of the persistant rain falling for a few days before the event. It eventually took place last Sunday the 24th June. It is meant to be held at the end of summer, when the air is still warmish in the early morning hours and when you do not get goose bumps by just thinking about going into the pool. Let alone running with a wet shirt afterwards. Brrrrr..... I am pretty sure that my Mom is rolling her eyes, right now, while she is reading this, thinking, “My crazy child, what does she allow her child to get into.“ |
